Guest House Facilitation is a new and refreshing practice that combines leading-edge open-space conversations with powerful techniques for personal leadership and enhanced group consciousness. The first two days GHF offers you an unique experience of this new communication without frontiers. The result, achieved in the following three days training,  is an ability to facilitate organizations, groups and communities to operate at high levels of dialogue, passion, commitment, consensus and creativity.

We begin with the unknown and then practice the tools to take the next, truly authentic, inspired step. We practice the critical skill to be in the now, to be aware from moment to moment, indeed to become what is unfolding. With this enhanced and seamless ability to translate spiritual inspiration into spontaneous positive expression, we re-enter our organizations, families and lives as an open space for courage, relevance, personal brilliance, truthfulness, co-inspiration and wise heartful action.

Welcoming all voices…acknowledging the value of all voices in our lives and their contribution to life purpose. We use Rumi’s well known poem, “The Guest House” as a metaphor for welcoming all inner and outer energies. The inner guests are all our thought, feelings, emotions and sensations. The outer guests are all participants and circumstances – everyone and everything that is present in our lives.

Taking 100% responsibility… experiencing ourselves in the world as being 100% responsible…not only an integral part of the whole, but BEING the whole

• ‘Focusing’ is the practicality of Gene Gendlin’s philosophy of the implicit. Focusing is creating a pause. The facilitator invites open attention to what is happening in the body of the participant. A space unfolds and new possibilities can be carried forward (

• ‘Dynamic Facilitation’ is a meaningful conversation invented by Jim Rough, it is the glue in our Guest House Facilitation. Dynamic Facilitation is not a dialogue; each participant addresses the facilitator and what he or she is sharing is reflected back as writing on flipcharts named ‘data,’ ‘solutions’ and ‘concerns.’ The shifts in the conversations are indicated through ‘how-statements.’ (

• The triad ‘Witnessing, Asking, Experiencing.’  Asking is a dance between the inner process and the external event that is happening in the environment. You curiously ask yourself “what is here now?” with whatever happens to you and get a sense of how it allows you to arrive here – ‘now’. The act of asking prompts us to experience what is happening in our body. It leads us deep into our sacred bodies and often extends to a variety of expressions – sensory, emotional, mental and spiritual. Once we are experiencing the sensations in our body, we are then able to acknowledge where we are through impartially witnessing what is happening now. There is no judgment; we simply notice what is happening. We do not do anything; we just allow whatever happens to unfold.

• The cosmic principle of the ‘life pulse’ and its effects on emerging processes. You will learn to discern the different aspects of the life pulse – stasis, expansion and contraction – and how they affect the process of creation.

• The practicality of ‘Theory U,’ which represents a stepwise process. We start opening our mind, recognize our taken-for-granted assumptions and begin to hear and see things that were not evident before. The second step is opening our heart to feel beyond the mind, achieving a deeper level of attention. Finally we are summoned to open our will, the ability to unlock our deepest feelings of commitment. We arrived at the state of ‘presencing.’ Otto Scharmer explains that the term ‘presencing’ combines the words presence and sense. A great deal of knowledge and insight coalesces in the catalyst of ‘presencing.’ The definition is to sense, to tune in and to act from your highest future potential. You are aware of habitual patterns from the past that are no longer constructive and you learn from the future as it emerges. ‘Presencing’ leads to enacting and realizing. (

• ‘Circle Practice’ combines thoughtful speaking from the heart and the mind with listening deeply. ( This is an ancient practice used by most cultures to hear all voices and come to healing.

We know how we start…

We start with a check-in. This important Circle-Practice form allows the participants to arrive in the space by presencing themselves and sharing their intentions for the gathering.

After the check-in, we lead the group through a ritual to align our intention. This is already a teaching. A ritual is a moment of stasis; we gather momentum for our wave of expansion. We evoke the soul of the ‘group being’.

One of our principles in Guest House Facilitation is offering teachings as they arise. We point out the different aspects of the ‘life pulse’ as they emerge as well as the different stages of Theory U.

At this point we will explain some of the basic principles of Dynamic Facilitation.

We know how we start, but we don’t know how the process continues… and herein lies the teaching…

We are ready to embark on our fascinating journey. We cannot duplicate the experience; each time the Guest House Facilitation will be different and new. It is a living experiential learning practice.

Dynamic Facilitation easily invites us to open our minds and hearts. Whatever is present will further flavour our experience and create its unique mix of inner and outer processes. The group body itself calls forth the emergent ‘form and flow’ of  its unique wisdom and leadership. The particular circumstances that each individual needs to learn the most from the experience spontaneously arise and are acknowledged. In this way, the whole experience stays connected and relevant to the current leadership realities and challenges present for the group members.

From day three on….

Depending on the size of the group, we will split into subgroups of 7-8 participants.

The participants who are ready will take turns facilitating. All will receive individualized supervision.

The particular circumstances that each individual needs to learn the most from the experience spontaneously arise and are acknowledged. In this way, the whole experience stays connected and relevant to the current leadership realities and challenges present for the group members.

2. Learn mediation and conversation techniques applicable to a variety of situations. Not only learning the techniques but understanding the components of each technique and how they work in effecting healing, creativity and change.

3. Enhanced self-awareness of individual contributions and talents. Being able to “hear your voice” and value your essence and the unique contribution you make and be able to “hear the other voices” and value their essence and their unique contribution.

Patricia Pfost

Patricia is a teacher, a process facilitator, a Dynamic Facilitation practitioner, a supervisor and trainer. She earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and is a graduate of the Center for Intentional Living program in integrative psychology. Her traditionally focused career as a banker and healthcare planner was radically altered by her experience of The est Training, a transformational program popular in the US in the 1970’s.


For the next 40 years, she searched for ways to integrate and bridge conscious inspiration of spirit with healthy and humane business practice. Her down-to-earth practicality and ability to move quickly to the heart of the matter, coupled with clear communication skills, kindness, and an acceptance of all we are, enable her to transmit complex energetic and spiritual concepts with a sense of ease, ground and heart. She is certified as a Core Energetics Practitioner, a Radical Aliveness Group Process Trainer, a Dynamic Facilitation practitioner and trainer and a Brennan Integration Practitioner and supervisor.

She is Dean of the Advanced Studies Program of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing ( and Co-Director and a dean of the Radical Aliveness Core Energetics Institute of Southern California (

Sherry Pae

Heart centered vision and depth of enlivened presence – these are the gifts I offer, whether it be as a facilitator, a group leader, a therapist, a professional supervisor, a teacher, a nurse, a School Dean, or an organizational administrator.   My passion is being with the group body as flow creates new form and function.   Through grounded awareness of common purpose, inspired facilitation supports emergent wisdom, and the profound unfolding that arises through the potent field of the unconditioned

I am honored to have served as a leader in many organizational structures, including Nurse Manager in Critical Care at a large Medical Center in the United States for over 20 years.

Since 1992, I have also been involved in the healing arts through the Barbara Brennan School of Healing.   I am the current School Dean of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing in Europe as well of as the Dean of the Advanced Studies Program, and the Director of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology.   As a Class and School Dean I also am honored to be able to teach and serve as a group process facilitator and group supervisor.  (    I am also a certified Continuum teacher, experienced in leading groups through very intimate journeys of self –discovery and transformation. I have been teaching and leading groups for over 25 years in many different venues.   Through it all I remain open, learning, growing, and expanding my capacity to be with what is and to love well.

Veerle De Bock

is a physician, healer, facilitator, trainer, coach and author of the trilogy, Becoming What is Changing. She spent nearly three decades of her life as a physician specializing in geriatric care, including a 21-year career as department head in an Antwerp regional hospital. In 2003, she began her study as an energetic healer, teacher, process facilitator and supervisor at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, and since 2007 has been leading many other trainees to master these same skills. In 2010 she was trained in the practice of Dynamic Facilitation by Jim Rough, which she now incorporates into her workshops and training sessions. In 2012 she decided to devote her work exclusively to writing, facilitation and coaching. That same year, she devised a new integrative practice of facilitation she calls ‘Guest House Facilitation’, that helps teams learn how to listen and utilise both the inner and outer processes within their organisation, to see it as a dynamic and living organism, and to reconnect to its intrinsic purpose and intention. Her book, Becoming What is Changing: Exposition, is the first part of a trilogy aimed at managers, team leaders and responsible employees who wish to bring this kind of transformation into the workplace, so they can create an environment where people are happy, satisfied and continuously growing.
